Toll hike: Cabs, trucks to go on strike

catsLorry and taxi drivers will launch an indefinite strike on May 9, demanding the rollback of the four-fold hike in toll on the road leading to the Kempegowda International Airport (Bellary Road).
The BJP has termed the steep increase in toll on National Highway 7 leading to the Kempegowda International Airport as “daylight robbery”.
Speaking to reporters, former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok said that the party would take up the matter with the Union government on the propriety of collecting toll here, if it came to power at the Centre.
The Karnataka government on Tuesday expressed its helplessness in reducing the steep hike effected by the concessionaire on the road leading to Kempegowda International Airport.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials met Karnataka public works minister HC Mahadevappa and explained the rationale dictating the hike, and ruled out any rollback.
In more shock, the latest buzz is that the toll on other expressways in and around Bengaluru is expected to increase soon by 7-8 per cent.
